From the current series, We live our predictions
The ego, insecure and afraid for itself, tries to foresee and prepare for what it can find in what it remembers; everything else is discarded as unreal and moves into the future moment — into prediction, prognosis, probability. We try to alter the prediction, to raise or lower the probability. We wait for, and foresee, a future projection.
The series of paintings I have begun treats the human being as a screen for projection. The shape of the body, its posture, distort what is projected, as an attempt to influence the probability of what was predicted. The image projected onto the body represents the ego: how we think, or wish, others see us.
I believe a work of art should stand in contrast to what we project as reality. The presence of the unexpected, the improbable, should remind us of what we ignore and what we reject.
